Hablemos de Fotografía

La fotografía digital es un invento maravilloso, a ésta le debo mi comienzo, mi maestra, que me ha enseñado de tantos y tantos disparos y tener el resultado al instante para comprobar errores.
El digital nos lleva a Internet, donde he podido leer hasta el cansancio y compartir opiniones en grandes comunidades virtuales. Hasta flickr donde me he hartado de ver ver y ver constantemente muchísimas fotografías y de gente muy pero muy buena.
La posibilidad que te da flickr de hacer una búsqueda sobre un equipo en concreto y ver los resultados, incluso ordenados por nivel de importancia o relevancia, te acerca a grandes maestros utilizando el equipo que buscas...
Es fabuloso.

Digital photography is a wonderful invention, she was my begining, my teacher, shooting endelessly just to have the result inmediately there to check for errors.
Digital photography, takes me to the internet, where i have read restlessly about it and shared thoughts and opinions in great virtual communities. From there, to flickr, where i´ve been looking looking and looking pictures of lots of really, really good people.
The possibilities to search for a particular gear in flickr and sort the results by relevance or interestingness, takes you to the masters using the gear you are looking for...
It´s Fabulous.


En flickr me he topado con que una gran parte de las fotos que mas me gustan están hechas en película ¿ por que ?.
Pues primero porque ya sabéis que soy un fanático de las cortas profundidades de campo y ese rollo cinematográfico que tienen, y a esto los 35mm o el formato medio le sientan de maravilla. Lo segundo, y esto es lo que más la destaca del digital, es esa profundidad y tonalidad única del color e incluso del blanco y negro. La textura, el grano y sobre todo el rango dinámico que es incomparable con el digital.

I´ve found out that from the pictures I like the most in flickr are made with film. ¿why?
First, you know i´m a fan of thin depth of fields and the cinematic look you get, besides, thin DoF goes great for 35mm or medium format.
Second, and this is maybe what really separates film from digital, is the unique depth and tonality of color, even black and white. Texture, grain and mostly the dynamic range is worlds apart.


Cada cual tiene sus ventajas. Mi fotografía, hoy, es 90% digital y solo un 10% película. Pero eso es solo porque aún, no tengo todo el equipo que quiero en film...

Each have their advantages. My photography is 90% digital and 10% film. But only beacause i don´t have all the gear y want for film....


Hoy día en ebay, se consiguen a precios de risa cámaras de carrete hasta con objetivos luminosos. Y como la película hace de sensor, cualquiera puede dar excelentes resultados. Mientras se tenga un buen objetivo y una buena película, y luego claro, que el obturador sea preciso y la cámara este en relativo buen estado de funcionamiento.

Nowadays on ebay, you get really cheap prices for film cameras, some of them including a nice fast lens. And because the film works as the sensor, every one can give you big results. As long as you have a working shutter, a nice lens and nice film, the results are near excellent.


Os cuento una anécdota graciosa con la Zorki 4k, sí sí la preciosa rusa plateadita telemétrica. Pues la gané en una subasta en ebay a un británico por unos 20 pico euros.Y resulta que el vendedor me escribe diciendo que acaba de notar un fallo en el obturador y me la enviaba gratuitamente... y así fue.
Llegó, me apañé un poco con el obturador y expuse el primer carrete...
No veáis lo brutal que es su objetivo, Jupiter 8 50mm f/2.0,
nítido, luminoso, robusto y super pequeño.
Si es que la gente hasta regala las cosas ya ... Luego dejó de funcionar definitavamente el obturador, pero aún la conservo porque es una cámara preciosa y supongo que podré montar ese maravilloso Jupiter 8 algún día en una micro 4/3.

Funny story with the Zorki 4k, yes, the beautiful niquel-plated telemetric.
I won the auction to a british guy for about 20€. The seller then, sends me an e-mail saying that he just found out a failure in the shutter and that he would sent it free of charge... and so it was.
It arrived, i fiddled with the shutter, and exposed the first roll...
You should have seen the Jupiter 8, sharp, bright, built like a tank and very small.
Is incredible how people is giving away their stuff now... The shutter broke definitely a while later, but I keep it because is a beautiful camera and I guess i will be able to adapt the wonderful Jupiter 8 to a micro 4/3 camera.


La fotografía de carrete esta de saldo, y hay que aprovecharla ... lo caro ... son los carretes y revelado ... Bueno y por supuesto, si se quiere compartir el resultado en Internet, tener un buen escaner...

Film photography is on sale, you have to take the opportunity... the messed up thing... are the price of a film roll and the developing... and a scanner if you want to share on flickr.....


Creo que no hay mejor terapia para todo amante de la fotografía, que coger una cámara completamente manual, sin incluso pilas, con fotómetro de selenio, con uno de mano, o sin él. Pasar una tarde entera haciendo fotos sin mirar por la pantallita. Esperar unos días a tener el resultado y sobre todo encontrarse con algunas que te dejen realmente sin aliento, con una calidad estupenda, con algunas tonalidades únicas que nunca hubieses encontrado en digital. Haciendo las fotos una sola vez o dos para rectificar, pero no mil, mirando la pantalla siempre insatisfechos.
De verdad os lo recomiendo.

I believe that there´s no better therapy for a photographer than to take a full manual camera, even full mechanical, with selenium photometer, a hand-held meter, or even none.
Spend an afternoon taken pictures without looking through the digital back screen after the shot. Wait a few days to have the results just to find some surpising things, unique tonalities, breathtaking colors that you would´ve never found in digital.
Taking pictures one or two times to rectify, but not a thousand, always looking at the screen filled with guilt, and a sense of underachievement.
Really, try it.

Hasta hace poco no entendía el porqué de la gente que seguía usando película. Nunca había tocado una cámara de carrete y tampoco había visto fotos de gente verdaderamente buena haciendo uso de fotografía química. Hasta hoy gracias a flickr, que puedo diferenciar al instante si una foto esta hecha en film (y suelen ser de flechazo, las que mas me gustan)

Not until recently i fully understood why people still used film. I had never touched a film camera or seen photos of really good people using chemical photography. Until today, thanks to flickr I can tell film from digital at first glance and they are usually my favourites.

No me quejo del digital, y seguiré fotografiando digital seguramente mil veces mas que en filmico, de ahí vengo y de ahí aprendí, pero esto de la película empiezo a entenderlo y sobretodo ... a disfrutarlo y muchísimo.

I don´t complain about digital, i´ll probably keep shoot digital more than film, it´s where i come from but i´m starting to get this... and loving every minute of it.


Ya hecha la terapia de la cámara manual, nos podemos dar un paseito ahora con una digital y aprovechar algunas cosas.
Una muy importante y super inviable con película, es por ejemplo el hecho de salir a callejear sin mirar por el visor. También es una buena terapia porque tampoco miramos la pantallita hasta llegar a casa.
Sí sí, he dicho el "no mirar el Visor", es decir coger la cámara con una mano, dedo en el disparador, cámara al pecho o cintura, y disparar mientras vas caminando.
En mi caso que utilizo enfoque manual, fijo una distancia y cuando creo que estoy cerca de esa distancia, hago 3 disparos seguidos, mientras sigo caminando.

Now that we have made our manual camera therapy, we can prance around with our digital slr and take advantage of a few things.
First, the burst shooting. Without looking through the viewfinder. Is a good therapy too because if forces you not to look at the screen until you get home.
Yes, i said "without looking through the viewfinder". I mean put the camera on your hand with a finger in the shutter, take it to your chest, or waist, even your back, and shoot as you walk around. In my case, i set a focus distance on the lens and when i think i´m close to that distance, bam, burst shooting, three frames should be more than enough.


Muchos fotones que pasan delante de nuestras narices, no las hacemos por no animarnos o no estar preparados. Con este método, quizás perdamos miles de fotos por mala composición o foco, pero de seguro tendremos miles mas que si no hiciésemos nada.

We miss a lot of great pictures by not being ready or not taking a chance. With this method, we may loos thousands of photos because of bad composition or lack of sharpness but it beats doing nothing.


Como os imaginareis, esto requiere disparar igual 200 o 300 fotos, lo cual equivaldria a casi 10 carretes, que con revelado (solo del negativo), podría llegar a costar entre 60 y 100€. Para que luego con suerte hayan salido 10 fotos, pues como que va a ser que no. La fotografía química es para medir el disparo, pensarlo, respirar hondo antes de disparar, cada foto cuesta pasta.

As you can imagine, this takes a lot of hard drive real state, 200-300 photos per session (roughly ten rolls) is a lot of money in film. And then you find out that only 10 are worth something. With film you have to think every shot, your money is on the line.


En este caso con digital, llegas a casa con toda la ansiedad de ver si ha salido algo de todo ello, y quizás te encuentras con la mejor foto que hayas hecho nunca.
Muchas fotos callejeras mías están hechas de esta manera, y su belleza radica en que la gente sale natural, espontánea, no sabe de la existencia de la cámara, no posa, y tampoco se molesta.

In this case with Digital, you get home with a lot of anxiety to see if you have finally made something good out of it, and maybe you find the best photo you've ever done...
Many of my street photography is made like that, their beauty lies in the attitude of the photographed subject, they´re not aware of the camera, they are not posing and they are not bothered .

Cada formato tiene su ventaja. Por eso lo ideal para mí, sería que mi fotografía fuese 50% y 50%, digital y película, para poder disfrutar lo mejor de cada una ...

Each format has its advantages. For that reason, some day my photography will be 50-50 digitall and film, best of both worlds.
